Heres a reformation that should work. Ask a kid what he wants to be when he grows up. Teach them only what they need to know, to accomplish that goal and cut out the fat... unless they want the extra unnecessary education for that path. Ie. History class is a huge waste of time unless you want to work in politics, etc. 99% of people don't use math above a 6th grade level throughout their entire lifetime. No need to. Someone has to be paid to shove that unneccesary education onto students.

  • Yeah kids don't know what they want to be so this would just fall apart. I wanted to be a history teacher when I was in high school but now I'm studying to be an Engineer.

  • That didn't prove anything to me. But I do like how you brought up poetry class. A perfect example of Fat that should be cut out.

  • I agree about math, but not history. History is part of common knowledge and culture, people have to know at least a basic idea of our history.

You think so... I can pretty confidently say that History class does more to keep hatred alive between races of men than anything else. Most racism... is because schools shove history class down each and every kids throat as a requirement to graduate. At least in my case, I am able to say that most of my racist thoughts, are because of what I learned in history class. I mean, I understand teaching people history on the basis of learning from the pasts mistakes. But that hasn't stopped people from actually repeating those mistakes. So what's the point? If I never teach my child that the French were cowards that surrendered almost immediately to the Germans.... they wouldn't have anything in their minds to push them on the path towards trying to ridicule the French as cowards. They would have nothing to work with. History class is just adding fuel to the fire. And I'm talking about overall racism on the subconscious level. There's nothing you can really do about the immediate surface Racism that passes from parent to child. OR to put it another way.. Stop worrying about the past.. and think about the future. History class is detrimental to mankinds ascension. You want a recent example of how detrimental teaching the past is? Look at the current tensions between Christians and Muslims. Look at how often Muslims refer back to the Crusades as justification for their hatred towards Christians. If this new generation of Muslims was never taught anything about that dark period of history in the first place..... Then we wouldn't be here.

I have a tangent analogy to go along with this. I went to DeVry for a semester or two back in the day (Worst decision of my entire lifetime) They started out trying to teach me how to install windows 3.1. By this time I think Windows XP was already 3 years into it's lifespan. Can you tell me now.. in this day ... What purpose does it serve an IT professional, to say...? "I know how to install windows 3.1" NONE WHATSOEVER! And any company that is still using such an archaic OS... I would never work for in the first place. But they want to force that on each and every student attempting to get a degree out of that place. And to charge them 1,000$ per credit hour to teach that to them. History class is basically the same thing. Worthless for most people. In other words.. Knowing how to install windows 3.1 is not a foundation for anything related to the current Windows Operating systems. Just as reading about WW1, WWII, 100 Year War, and Crusades.... is not a foundation for 99% of people who are going about their daily lives today.
