Why is always California that's to large to be governed? Texas and Alaska are much larger, but no one ever wants to split them into into a bunch of smaller "more manageable" states.
It's a ploy to break up a major democratic voting block into smaller more manageable pieces so that the Republicans can win a few of them. The reason you don't see it with Texas at the moment is because it's largely a red state. However if it ever becomes blue like some political analysts believe it will you'll start seeing similar calls to break up Texas into smaller states too.
Texas has a constitution that allows it to break up or something weird like that
Texas and Alaska are much larger
But with a significantly smaller population, especially Alaska. California has more people than all of Canada.

I answered my own question in the spoiler. It isn't about the population or physical size. It's a ploy to break up California into a bunch of smaller states that can be won by Republicans.
