I don't want factions to be a direct player choice. I want each faction to have a set of values, and as you complete missions and perform other in-game actions, your reputation with these factions changes. Some, if not all, of these values should be mutually exclusive, so that you cannot appease all factions at the same time. Only after you've gained a high enough reputation with a particular faction are you invited to join. That way, your faction membership actually means something about how you play the game.

  • I like the way you would use the game play to interpret what faction you should align with. You always think you should be part of the "great big penis sniper McAwesome" faction. But after playing for two hours you find out that you should join the, "hide and wait for the bad man to run out of bullets" brigade. Nice.

  • Well, I'd rather it be more oriented around the goals of the factions, rather than play style. For example, let's say you find a big haunkin' space gun, left abandoned years ago, and an enemy race has sent a small contingent to control and study the weapon. I think it would be cool if different factions had different ideas as to what they want to do with that weapon. Maybe FWC wants to send an occupying force to reclaim and study the weapon ourselves, but Seven Seraphs would rather see the installation destroyed than risk so many Guardians trying to protect something that may prove fruitless anyway. So, as you infiltrate the facility, you can either try to power up the internal and external defenses creating a stronghold; pleasing FWC, and disappointing Seven Seraphs. Or you can power up the self destruct mechanism and please Seven Seraphs, but disappoint FWC.

    We are only talking main game play here. PVP will be simple quick and fast. This (I doubt) will have human factions fighting aliens and not each other (except PVP) and may not have the narrative such as you suggested. It sounded awesome by the way. Main factions may offer skill based incentives or weapon attachments, but specific main title objectives could be a stretch. I will wait to be proved wrong. Expat out.

  • Because from what I've read and see factions are for the most part for pvp gameplay I feel like they will want to satisfy the people by allowing them to pick what faction to rep right way rather than having them be forced into one based on their choices.... However they could do quests with multiple options of completion each one satisfying certain factions like you which would be really cool in my eyes gw2 did this and worked well in my eyes.... Fingers crossed
