Curious and curiouser.
I do like the way he teased their abillity to react to dominant strategies, it sounds as if they've designed Destiny so that they can quickly make tweaks to the sandbox as though they were making tweaks to multiplayer maps. Arena might actually be a viable concept now.

Why didn't people like Arena in Reach? I loved it during the beta, but once the game actually released everyone hated it.

I never got into it, either in the Beta or the actual game. Between the outstanding issues I had with some of Reach's core mechanics and the fact that you had to put in quite a bit of time to get ranked only for it to be reset every single month made it pretty frustrating. Not to mention, there was only so much Bungie could tweak between seasons to try to improve things, Halo's sandbox is just rather limited. Destiny might be a different story. If they do a better job of making the system transparent (Clearly show players that they are either making progress or falling back rather than waiting for them to jump between divisions), if they perhaps increase the length of seasons (two or three months seems reasonable, yes), and they do plenty of balancing between seasons to keep the metagame fresh and interesting, and if they visibly rewarded players who did well, I think it would be altogether a more enjoyable experience and would attract more players.
