I wouldn't even consider Christmas as a religious holiday anymore. It's so commercialized and has become more of a cultural thing.

Yet say "Merry Christmas" in public and you'll get crucified by atheists lol It's religious when it comes down to it, for whatever reason.
-
No, you'll get trampled by other religions, Atheists really could give shit less about the word Christmas.
-
Even truer. Take you're "Happy Holidays" and shove them up your ass. BTW: Have a merry Christmas.
-
Do you really not understand the purpose of "happy holidays"? There's a bunch of different holidays that people celebrate around this time of year. There's no way to know what someone does or does not celebrate, so it makes sense to say "happy holidays." The only truly appropriate time to say "merry Christmas" is on December 25th.
-
I only celebrate Christmas, therefore have a merry Christmas. All the people I know celebrate Christmas. People could say to me "Happy Hanukkah, Kwanzaa." I'd say it back. I don't celebrate it, but I would acknowledge their beliefs and not get all offended and go berserk.

Edited by Ms Blue Phacelia: 12/1/2013 6:15:12 AMThat absolutely true, but when it comes down to origin, how would that go in explanation?
-
How to explain where Christmas came from? Easy "Christians stole an old pagan tradition and made up some bullshit about it being the birth date of their saviour. Now modern day corporations have run it into the ground trying to make a profit, and it's beyond ruined."
-
Exactly. Ignorance is born from ignorance itself. Thanks, you were exactly the kind of people I was trying to reveal here. Stay ignorant and intolerant all you want, but don't raise what ever unfortunate kids you'll have that way.
-
Edited by RIP delta: 12/1/2013 7:01:09 AMI don't see the ignorance. Christmas is nowhere near the time Jesus was supposedly born in the year and was, as with a lot of Christian practices, simply the product of co-opting local beliefs in order to help sell itself to new people. "Oh you worship the guy in the forest? Thats cool, he's a good spirit in our religion, what coincidence!" and so on and so forth. He is also right that at present Christmas is simply a time when companies try to get you to buy massive amounts of things you certainly on't need so you can give them to people who also don't need and certainly don't deserve them for free. Just like Black Friday, Christmas serves to highlight the absolute dominance of profiteering in the modern world
-
Edited by Ms Blue Phacelia: 12/1/2013 7:04:40 AMSpout stuff to about something he knows little about. Yeah ignorance. About the profiteering, he's right.
-
What in particular in his reply are you referring to?
-
I'm ignorant because I dismiss any claim not backed by sufficient evidence? Right, whatever. I'll give you the intolerant part. I'm very intolerant of bullshit.
-
You'd feed your kids a very biased and ignorant opinion based one hate and intolerance. You don't educate them, or say nothing and let them figure it put for themselves. They could grow up thinking just like you ignorant and intolerant. It's funny how some atheists cry for tolerance for their beliefs but don't give religions any in return
-
Go read your other thread.
-
So... You contradict yourself. :(
-
That it originally had religious origins from Christianity. Simple really.
-
Would you distinctly tell them it's all a load of crap, or would you let them decide that for themselves?
-
I say people can go believe in whatever they want and nothing should ever forced when it comes to anything religious. If I ever have kids, I'll let them decide for themselves if they want to be religious or not.
-
Edited by Ms Blue Phacelia: 12/1/2013 6:33:21 AMAt least you're level-headed. Can't say the same for that poor General Nooobus fellow. Hope he doesn't have kids.
-
I take it you're a Christian, right? So you'll be taking your kids to church, right? Well, you pretty much have to, otherwise you're not a true Christian. So they'll go to church at an age where they're very, very impressionable, and be forced to listen to some guy rant on about how great god is for a couple of hours once a week. Plus all the other various Christian influences in your everyday life that they'll be exposed to. But no, you're going to give them a very unbiased view of the world and let them come to their own conclusions, right?
-
Wrong again. I'm not Christian. I don't care about religion. I'm not atheist either. I laughed when you said "not a true Christian if you don't go to church." I was raised catholic, but in your case, my parents weren't true Catholics either. I would allow my kids to decide for themselves. If they asked for my opinion, I'd tell them it's their own choice, and shouldn't be asking for opinions from anyone.
-
I don't care about religion. I'm not atheist either.
So you're a skeptic? So am I. If I may clarify here, I just plain don't believe in anything that doesn't have substantial evidence to support it. I'll be raising my kids the same way, because I feel the most rational belief system is to only believe the facts. If there's no evidence for it it isn't even worth considering in my books.
-
Not a skeptic, I don't care. I'll allow my kids to believe in whatever religion they want. You came off intolerant and said you are. You might want to change that. Teach your kids to tolerate others beliefs. Nobody has to agree with what they believe in, if its not physically hurting anybody, leave it alone.
