I'm glad your mom was accepting. Your dad? Siblings?

  • Much to explain about that, so wall of text incoming. TL:DR in end. My dad doesn't know, and probably won't know until (if) I ever have a same-sex relationship. It's not that I think he's against LGBT people or anything, but... Things are a little bit awkward between us. He and my mom separated when I was five, and I'm only living with him every other weekend, so obviously I don't know him as well as I know my mom. And he's really not one to talk about feelings, or talk much at all, which I think was part of the reason my mother decided to divorce. I plan to tell my siblings eventually, I just don't know when or how yet. Being the youngest of my siblings, with them being really close in age to each other and me being seven years younger than the youngest of them, they've always looked after me. I don't doubt for a second they'll accept me, I just haven't brought it up yet. And since they've all moved out, I don't get a lot of opportunities to speak to them in person, even less to sit them down to talk one-on-one. TL:DR My relation with my dad is awkward, and he probably won't know until I have a same-sex relationship. I will tell my siblings eventually.

  • Hey! Good job on working up the courage to tell your parents. I can tell you from my experience that once you're completely out (if it's safe to do so) you feel so much better and the burden of secrecy is lifted from your shoulders. But coming out is a constant process with everyone you meet so you might as well get used to it!
