I'm thinking eventually the standard will be a duo Titan combo with either a Lock or Hunter as the DPS. From the small glimpse of gameplay I've seen some of the encounters dish out serious damage. But the game is geared towards player preference so we really won't be able to "theory-craft" until we get hands on. Viability may be in the hands of the beholder.

From the posts I've seen, Titans may be the rarest class. Most people seem to be aiming for either Hunter or Warlock.

Edited by SD GoonSquad: 11/20/2013 5:21:29 PMPeople like the shiny and powerful. Personally I'm going to roll a Titan. They will be an integral part of the game. Support classes are necessary, especially when looking at multiplayer styles of gaming. I think once we get a more set-in-stone skill set for each class there will be a shift in desire. At least for the more competitive lot of us. If a team roles out two titans with a specced out Sniper against a pure damage team they'd be at a huge advantage. Same goes for the aforementioned Titans with a Lock. Considering they still deal substantial damage and essentially will control the pace, positioning and posture of an engagement I think Titans are going to be the FoTM at launch. I'm in for the BETA so I'll let you know how everything feels.

All three classes are shiny and powerful... Did you just say titans "will control the pace, positioning and posture of an engagement"? I doubt Bungie would make two cool classes like Hunters and warlocks, only for them to be so weak that they need to be meat-shielded by Titans :/ Especially as KingGuerrilla said "I have been finding it interesting that the footage we have been seeing often shows Warlocks in the "Point" position of the Fireteam.". I'm in the Beta too.

It's stated that Warlock's will be innately squishy. I guess we'll both see come January.

Warlocks don't need armor, they have explosive attacks and are very agile. This makes them ideal front men. Armored units need to be shot since they have that armor at the expense of something else, example: Damage or agility. Maybe stealth. A titan would probably be better in closed quarters like corridors or apartment style buildings where flanking isn't really an option. Since someone can just cover a door or passage way, the armor would count. But that hardly means Titans would be the main factor in an engagement. And that's coming from a Titan.

Edited by SD GoonSquad: 11/21/2013 5:45:16 PMIrregardless if they "have explosive attacks" and are "very agile", they still will be the focused target in a competitive team game format. What good is a warlock that gets sniped in the face being the "point-man?" I wasn't really looking for an argument hear you asked for opinion, I gave you mine. Logically, in a PvE atmosphere a Hunter will take point with their stealth and mobility being quintessential to that role. In addition their apparent melee prowess or tactical sniping capabilities makes them the initiator in most scenarios. A Warlock will always be lingering towards the back, using the Titan in front of him as deterrence. Sticking him out in front of the rotation sorely limits his ability to deal effective AoE and targeted damage, as it looks like there will be a slight "cast" time for some if not all of the abilities. Yes, the Titan will control the flow of battle across all things Destiny. Deterrence and suppression will be hugely stressed in this game. "Titans have been shown to use an attack known as the Fist of Havoc, in which they strike the ground releasing a powerful explosive shockwave capable of destroying and possibly throwing multiple opponents within the blast radius." "Titans have also been seen to use an ability that creates a large spherical shield of energy to protect themselves and nearby allies from projectile attacks. Though it is suggested that individuals may be able to physically move through the shield unlike the speeding projectiles of their weaponry." The shield itself will probably be one of the most beneficial abilities for any class in any situation. A "bubbled" sniper with two Titans using their AoE knock back and peppering on comers with LMG fire seemingly makes a great base defense for games like CTF. Similarly the shield allows you to establish a forward position or a posture control over certain parts of a map. This is all speculation. On both of our behalves. I'll be interested to reference our thoughts when we get into the BETA.

Suppression is to hold down a target so allies can safely advance and flank it. The shield is a cool defense system especially if a titan could shoot out of it. As this would be like a temporary mobile bunker :D But that hardly makes him more important than any other class. Especially as someone else has to do the actual flanking.
