It would make Microsoft look great and competition is always good for innovation. As much as I have hated Sony leading up to the next generation of consoles, losing them would devastate the gaming industry.

It wouldn't be too bad if another big name entered the competition but Nintendo is falling and Sony is on it's last chance to survive and with no competitor in sight MS would have no choice but to step in and help.

  • Exactly, and that is just the gaming portion. Every laptop sony sells, MS gets a cut for Windows. You might lose that profit when you bail them out, but it definitely gives you more ground on them, so even though they bail Sony out, they will still dominate, and look generous in the process. Also, bailing Sony out will also allow MS to demand more money for putting their OS on Sony devices.

  • And maybe Sony will either start selling software like Sega or focus solely on Gaming, except the handheld crap which can't compete with Nintendo.

  • I actually see a lot of potential in the Sony handhelds, it just requires execution, which has not happened. It is kind of like when the Wii first came out and no one really knew what to develop for it, and which game complimented the interface most, so it was all shallow first party games and half finished third party games. That is where I see Sony's handheld right now. I feel like they have a bunch of potential though, and hope that they don't drop that part of their gaming division.
