• Depends on the people. For some it's easier than others. I enjoyed the one I was in.

  • It's more difficult, sure. But I think that it proves that you like them for them rather than only their body.

  • I was in a long distance relationship for 4 years. We ended up getting married and we're still together. It can be done.

    • If it's for a short time, it can actually make you closer to the person, since it means you and them stayed in regular contact even though you couldn't be with each other. But if it's really drawn out, yea, it's terrible. (if we are talking romance here)

      • I have seen several friends fall into them, and all of them ended badly. That's not to say they can never work out, but generally I don't think they are a good idea.

      • Well, my last long-distance relationship ended putting me in what we'll call for simplicity's sake, a "rebound position." The long-distance relationship I tried before that ended so terribly I felt extreme guilt for over 2 years. I've seen long-distance work. I just haven't had any luck on my part.

        • I've never been in one, so I can only guess how it is, considering my friend was in one for a few years. If I get a girlfriend, I want to be able to see her in person any time.

        • Depends on how old you are, really. My girlfriend an I are both adults. I live in CA, she's in DC. I visit every 6-8 weeks or so, and when she has breaks from school she comes out here. She'll be done with her program in the spring, so not much longer. if you're a kid, it makes it pretty much impossible.

        • I feel they're fine to be in as long as you can realistically be together at some point. No point dragging it out forever if you won't have any chance of going to/visiting each other.

Lack of physicality sucks dick. Platonic connection generally makes up for it, though.

        •
Been in one for almost three years. It's hell sometimes. Gets worse the longer you do it. But it depends on the strength of the bond obviously. Not something for everyone.
• They undeniably have their downsides, but that's no reason not to be in one. For the past 13 months I've been in a pretty great long distance relationship with a girl who lives on the other side of the world. The distance sucks, but it also makes actually being together all that more special. The goodbyes are the worst part though. She went back home earlier this week after spending 12 days over here. Awful feeling to let go.

My and my girlfriend were in a long distance relationship at one point. She moved to Holland to study (we had met before she moved) for 2 years. It was crap

          • Really comes down to the couple and how close they are. Bonds are something that can last through anything, you just need to have trust in the other person and do what you need to and it can survive. Not to say it isn't still naturally difficult though.
