Piece of shit game. 2008 graphics, "New game mechanics" include sliding and vaulting over ledges and jumping up walls and other ledges. "HOLY SHIT THAT IS SOOOOO NEXT GEN. PLS TAKE ME MONEYZ"
They didn't even bother with the PC port. I had to bitch at Steam for 10 hours before I got a refund. They don't even care anymore.
And another thing: You and TB are absolutely right. With a billion dollar franchise, I expect much more production value out of their games. Enough is enough. IW, Activision. Please. Please start investing more into these games. If you really are investing, it's just not showing. Get rid of your current teams and hire people who have real talent. People who aren't afraid to take the formula, dump it out, and make something new and scary and fun.
Edit: I like the squad v squad mechanic though. Bots are a good thing.

Edited by M37h3w3: 11/7/2013 5:32:30 AMThat's what 343 did* with H4 and "everyone" hated it.

Edited by Gravy Mind: 11/8/2013 8:10:35 PMThe difference is that 343i were taking over a different developer's franchise while IW had already made lots of CoD games. 343i also didn't make advancements so much as changes for changes sake. Many features didn't work on launch. They added a lot less than they took out (they took out more single player enemies, useful HUD facilities, multiplayer maps, forge capabilities and multiplayer gametypes than they added), all the while arrogantly proclaiming that they'd made the best Halo ever among mountains of complaints. I don't want developers to produce almost exactly the same game 2 years later, but I also don't want them to remove tons of features and butcher the basic gameplay mechanics. I want them to make intelligent but risky advancements that build on the previous release. Think Halo CE to Halo 2 or Halo 3 to Halo Reach.

Edited by Atomic Tea: 11/7/2013 5:45:30 AMIf you don't change anything, then everyone is going to hate it anyway. At least if you make changes, you run the possibility of capturing lightning in a bottle again (quoting Bungie). And 343i didn't change the formula into anything new. They dumped out the Halo formula and poured in the CoD formula. The result was devastating, as we all know.

Edited by M37h3w3: 11/7/2013 5:51:01 AMLast I checked, H4 wasn't a twitch based shooter with no semblance of skill and a focus on big ticket set pieces designed to make the game into a adrenaline joyride. And given how millions of people still bought Ghosts and how much money it's made despite it being another mass produced clone of their previous title, IW and Activision are laughing all the way to the bank with all the money they are going to be wiping their bums with. There certainly is a large, and apparently growing, number of players out there who are being disenfranchised by this recycled garbage and I think that's a good thing. But the message that people are sending is that they hate experimentation. The hate and the vitriol thrown against H4 is proof of that. The billions that Ghosts will make is proof of that.

Edited by Atomic Tea: 11/7/2013 6:23:11 AM
Last I checked, H4 wasn't a shooter with no semblance of skill and a focus on big ticket set pieces designed to make the game into a adrenaline joyride.
You might want to check again. It might not be a "twitch shooter" but there's no denying they took a page out of the Call of Duty book. And that is not a compliment. People buy into it because it's the only franchise they know, because their friends all play it and don't want to feel left out, or they got some crazy idea of how different and unique it would be this time around (I fell into that trap). The "resistance to change" argument is only half viable, I think. I think people want change, but they want it done correctly. 343i was making their first full attempt at making a Halo game, and not just any Halo game. It had to be a Halo game that made it unique from Bungie's Halo, but still feel like Halo at the end of the day. The result was a jumbled mess that left many people dissatisfied. Did 343i learn from the Halo 4 experience? Who knows? Wait till their next game and judge. IW on the other hand has had a decade to establish itself and the Call of Duty series. And what has it done? It's stayed virtually the same for 7 years, and there IS a growing number of people who are getting disgruntled by it. They're either extremely lazy or extremely arrogant. I think it's both. The PC version of MW3 and Ghosts has proven this. One would think with all that revenue, these issues wouldn't even exist. They need a new formula, but it needs to be handled correctly or else they shouldn't even bother making another Call of Duty. Lord knows they didn't try when making the PC port.. Yikes. 1:30 am. I'm off to bed.
H4 wasn't a twitch based shooter with no semblance of skill and a focus on big ticket set pieces designed to make the game into a adrenaline joyride.
i agree with this part of your post. just because halo 4 takes an arcade setting doesn't mean it's a call of duty clone.

Halo dumped the old formula and look what happened. While there are other variables, how the game plays is a pretty freaking big one. From a business stand point, CoD is a money making machine. Minimal effort, maximum profit.

And that's starting to turn against CoD. The average so far barely puts it into the mid 70s. For the PS3. User reviews are bottom of the barrel. But then again everything is all or nothing with people on the internet. And H4's failure can be attributed to a dozen+ different problems.
But then again everything is all or nothing with people on the internet.
Methew, in my brief time on this site I've rarely completely agreed with your opinions, but this is probably the most accurate thing I've read in a long time. When I get home and can edit my profile, I'm making that my sig.

Is it turning against CoD? They're still moving millions upon millions of units. The average gamer probably doesn't read reviews or are bothered by them at all. They see CoD on the box and buy it. Regardless of what reviewers say, it's going to retain players and it will make over millions, if not billions, of dollars.
Is it turning against CoD?
Yes. It's small now but this is the start. Their sales aren't going to halve or even quarter overnight because of one game. It's going to eat away at the outer edges of their player base and if they keep at it, it'll bring the franchise down.
