Well if you're judging an old game based on graphics and audio quality compared to a newer sequel then you'll always be disappointed. "but it's most likely down to the audiovisual bombast." What does that mean? Not the words, I know what the words mean, but where is this in the game? It really makes no sense, name an example. Anyway, you're comparing 2 games that are 5 years apart, so only judge them based on gameplay. Nobody complains about graphics in Halo 4, that's not the issue people have with the game, it's the mediocre multiplayer gameplay. There is absolutely no learning curve, it's simple and cod-like. Any noob can be good at the game in 10 minutes if they've never played Halo in their life. There is a reason Halo 3 had a much longer life than Halo 4, there was replay value, there was a learning curve, the more you played the better you got, and when you were better than somebody else, you would almost always won, because that game came down to skill and tactics. Winning in Halo 4 is not satisfying, getting a kill does not feel like you accomplished anything, it's just a shitty game man. And it has nothing to do with the story, graphics, sound, or any other random shit you want to bring up.
"but it's most likely down to the audiovisual bombast." What does that mean? Not the words, I know what the words mean, but where is this in the game? It really makes no sense, name an example.
I don't know how best to describe it, but I'm guessing because of the more metallic, punchier sound design, that all sounds much cooler and more enjoyable, and everything looks so much better, and the artistic direction is some of the best in the series. It just feels much cooler, on the senses. And, because of the added horsepower, it feels more dynamic and lively as a result.
Anyway, you're comparing 2 games that are 5 years apart, so only judge them based on gameplay.
All part of the same package, bro, can't help it. I understand, but usually it's all thrown in together. If I were to distinguish, H4 has the best gunplay of the series (although head shots have always been wank in it), and ordnance gives peons like me a chance to play with the nicer toys. Don't like vehicular flimsiness, though, I can never really get much done with a Banshee or Mantis.
Nobody complains about graphics in Halo 4, that's not the issue people have with the game
Not true; because everything looks so great up close, the draw distance is terrible; you can see untextured rocks looking from one end if Vortex or Exile to the other.
it's the mediocre multiplayer gameplay. There is absolutely no learning curve, it's simple and cod-like. Any noob can be good at the game in 10 minutes if they've never played Halo in their life.
I dunno, man, I loathe Call of Duty. That said
it's mainly because of the quick time-to-death, the lack of colour, and that everyone has cooler stuff than me.
343 did that and pulled it off fine. I guess because of the balancing.
There is a reason Halo 3 had a much longer life than Halo 4, there was replay value, there was a learning curve, the more you played the better you got, and when you were better than somebody else, you would almost always won, because that game came down to skill and tactics.
If I lay 5 shots on someone with the BR and they don't keel over, something's wrong. It might be on my end, or it might be the game. Either way, it's insanely frustrating and arbitrary when something like that happens, and the gunplay isn't as tight as 4 either. Again, it might just feel better in 4 because of the stimuli, but I swear controls and hit detection are better too. That said, headshots are even harder to get, for some stupid -blam!-ing reason.
Winning in Halo 4 is not satisfying, getting a kill does not feel like you accomplished anything, it's just a shitty game man.
I think someone just needs to learn to have fun.
And it has nothing to do with the story, graphics, sound, or any other random shit you want to bring up.
The second two tie in to the MP experience, because, guess what, they are part of it.

  • Hit the nail on the head. Halo 3's simplicity was it's depth. Earning power weapons, earning the positioning, knowing you beat a team because you were the better team without a doubt, it was just so rewarding. Gone are those days, however.

Exactly. It was just you and your gun, and everybody on the other team had the same chances as you to win. It just came down to skill, map control, and team work. The only time you won is if you played better than the other team, luck was never involved.
