Pacific rim sucked. I understand that it wasn't trying to be sophisticated, it was just a homage to all the japanese kaiju films, but it still sucked. The only good part about it was Glados.

Edited by Recon Number 54: 10/27/2013 5:26:43 PMIMO, it was a "fun romp", a nice exploration of, and a Hollywood-ised homage to a beloved and well-established Japanese genre. Tons of cliche and formula, but that is what a romp movie is. No need to try to make it into Citizen Kane.

I guess Kaiju movies were never my kind of thing.

And that's fine. They're a guilty pleasure of mine. I have all of the Godzilla films (subbed and dubbed) and enjoy re-watching them when my wife's not in the mood for a movie. On the other hand, I was able to get her hooked on the Zatoichi film series, and we enjoyed each of them together. I honestly didn't expect her to like them, she's not a big fan of foreign movies, but the character, cinematography, performances and overall feel of them appealed to her.
I understand that it wasn't trying to be sophisticated
This part of your post is wrong, but I respect the rest of it.

Edited by o_____________o: 10/27/2013 5:14:41 PMI didn't get the sense that Pacific rim was trying to have a serious story, more like an excuse for giant robots to fight giant monsters. But really, the best thing to do would to have been to use missiles. I don't buy this "missiles don't work, but giant robots do" BS.

Read into this. Del Toro isn't exactly one to make a stupid film.

That website is not being friendly to my phone. Can you give me a short summary?

it's like massive Basically, it's detailing how Del Toro made his story intelligent from a visual standpoint. It's... hard to explain in a short post.
