I don't see what you don't understand since you know how to convert from one to the other. Why should it be any different when using equations?

I only know how to convert from an ordered pair (x,y) to polar form. But 7x = 7y confuses me.
-
Still all the problem is really asking you to do is substitute the conversion equations for Cartesian to polar into the equation. I don't really see why this should be so hard to understand.

Edited by PandaJerk007: 10/12/2013 8:14:12 AMI don't see what you mean. I have these to work with: r^2=x^2+y^2 and tan(theta)=y/x but I need to know what x and y are equal to, to be able to plug them in. I don't know how to find what they equal from 7x = 7y

Simply put you can rearrange tan(theta)=y/x and substitute in for x or y and then simplify or solve depending on what the question wants.

Polar equations are set up: ( r , (theta) ) I think I got the (theta) from what you suggested, but I'm still not sure about how to find the r

I think I might be onto something from this, I'll report back if it did in fact help me solve it
