If you let the repair go and it fails does it let you select system restore to go back to a previous point? Barring that if you have another W7 comp with the same version you can burn a startup repair disc and use it on your broken one.
-
I've been letting the repair go for like three and a half hours. At one point it did say it had identified the problem, and has since been 'attempting repairs'.
-
Well attempting repairs may be running a full checkdisc which can take a while.
-
I'm letting it go overnight. Fingers crossed...
-
Hopefully not too long; I have to be up early tomorrow, so I'll be to bed in a few hours.
-
May need an os disc to try and do the os repair.

Edited by Tartan 118: 10/11/2013 9:05:36 AMWell, it finished, and couldn't fix the base problem. I took a picture, if you're interested. Now I'm just trying a factory reset. I have everything I really need saved to various clouds, so hopefully I won't lose anything of great value.

I bet it would start up just fine if you took out one of the ram sticks(assuming there's two in it)
-
Pretty sure there's only one, but I took it out and plugged it back in again, hopefully better than when I took it out, so that it's sorted. Lets give it a shot.
-
How do I do that?
-
There should be a little square on the bottom that held in by a screw(or two) just a matter of unscrewing it and popping one of them out. I mean sure it's a silly idea but it's silly enough that it just may work
