Like all common RPGs and mmos, whoever gathers the most resources, (exp, gold, loot) becomes the strongest. If Destiny was in any way similar to an mmo, then i'd say that the farther out you go the harder it gets. Now with that being said, I would go somewhere on a low level planet ahead of the crowd so I can mega-farm. By the time others arrive, i'll have enough resources to move on. I'm sure Bungie has thought of this already and put in some kind of countermeasure.

 • Not sure if there will be farming in Destiny. There hasn't been any indication that resources will come from anything other than the bodies of your deceased enemies. Combine that with private loot streams, & it would appear (at this stage at least) that carving your way through your enemies will be the primary (if not sole) method of resource gathering. Then again, there are worse ways to earn one's keep. Personally, I detest grinding.
Alright, let's start with private loot streams: I tend to farm alone so that takes care of that part unless I misunderstood what you were trying to say. Now for the resource gathering: When I say "resources", I mean any collectible that can be used for my gain. As I stated previously experience points (exp), currency (glimmer(gold)), and weapons or armor (loot) would be considered resources in my opinion. Finally, the ways of farming (and farming in games): When you stated that ,from what we know so far, the primary source for resources would be killing enemies, I agreed since Destiny will be a open-world shooter and killing would be the main activity in common shooter games. When you stated that you think there won't be farming in Destiny, I disagreed because the gaming community (from what I believe) defines farming as the process in which one repeats a certain task or routine in order to gather a large amount of necessities over a period of time. In my opinion, farming can be used in any game that has: currency, experience, or items.

 • Ah, I see what you mean. You define "farming" in a broader sense than I do. My definition of farming consists of performing repetitive activities with a specific goal: to earn a badge, gather crafting resources to create certain items, levelling up, etc. The idea in these instances is that it will be faster/easier than grinding repeatable missions for miniscule completion bonuses. However, more often than not, "farming" & "grinding" are intertwined at certain levels in most MMOs (Be they MMORPGs, MMOFPSs, etc). I'm hopeful that Destiny will avoid that pitfall by taking away the emphasis on "levels" & "proficiencies" in favor of player skill. If Bungie truly intends to create something unique and distinct from the current "MMO" model, this will be an essential step. One should be able to acquire all of the resources they need through the normal course of the game, otherwise you open the door to grinding, followed quickly by a multitude of complaints in the forums about lack of mid-game/end-game content, just like every other type of multiplayer game which Bungie says that Destiny is not... Can farming be used in Destiny? Sure, I'll give you that. As you said, any game with currency and some sort of market will have and encourage farming. My point is that it shouldn't be a necessary part of the game if you're not into that sort of thing. Making it necessary to grind or farm in order to complete certain tasks or obtain certain items will be a huge step backward, in my opinion. I'm not talking about the standard repeatable "Kill 100 (insert bad guy name here) " missions you see in every game. While boring as hell, they are a necessary evil, due to the fact that no studio out there has the resources to create enough main-story content to keep thousands of players at a time satisfied indefinitely. However, if I want a rare item, I want to be able to go out & wade through hell itself to get it. I don't want to have to grind thousands of mobs or cut down thousands of trees or mine thousands of silver veins, until I have enough money to buy it or resources to make it... That doesn't challenge my ability, but merely tests my patience. Every other MMO I've played has made it necessary to farm in order to level up or get certain desirable items. It's time to go in a different direction. Anyway, agree to disagree I guess. It obviously works for you, and that's fine. Thus far, based on what the devs are saying, it looks like this game will be vast enough to accommodate both our playing styles and, in the end, that's what it's REALLY all about.

 • Okay, so we got some terms mixed up and I think we're now on the same level now. That being said, I have a couple things to adjust before finishing. I didn't mean to imply that I like farming. I just think it's the most effective and that it's inevitable in games. I stated how it was going to be my method unless Bungie found a way to counter it. I kind of gave of the feeling that I wouldn't enjoy it if they fixed it, but it's actually the opposite. I think it's the most effective since all it requires is patience. Basically, I agree with your opinions but I have my doubts. I'm sure Bungie will fix farming somehow.
