Question for Christians

I have read the entire Bible before

I have NOT read the entire Bible before

21

As an atheist in a Protestant evangelical school, I was extremely surprised to find out in a show of hands that the overwhelming majority (think 95%) of the Christians in the school, teachers and students alike, have never read the entire Bible before. I find this extremely aggravating. These are the same people trying to shove a Bible down your throats, yet they themselves have not thoroughly read every page of it before. No wonder most Christians do not see any contradictions in their holy book -- they have not read 3/4 of the damn thing. Do you not know that when these religious nuts try to convert you to their religion, they only pick out the nice sounding parts and omit the rest? They tell of how Christianity is a religion of love, tolerance, respect, and honor, but never tell you the full story. Richard Dawkins wrote in "The God Delusion" that the Christian God is "jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully". Perhaps this may sound like clever word play, but in truth these traits can all be found in the Holy Bible itself.

  • I am an atheist, I have not read the full bible, but think that the moral standpoints of christianity offers a good way to live your live, even if I find the god part absolutely preposterous. Also, while I can agree that a lot of christian schools and uneducated christians can force feed people the bible in attempt to brain wash them into christianity, but I have experiences first hand the true meaning of being a christian. Love, Compassion, and Fellowship to every man and woman on the face of the earth, regardless of race, religion, or sexuality. In the grand scheme of things, that is what matters. Not what god you worship, or what you believe, because in the end, without your fellow person beside you, this "god" forsaken world becomes a lot colder, and a lot lonelier. Do not caste out others, it is not worth it. Live your life at peace with everyone, that is the true meaning of the bible, and christianity as a whole. Some might say that it is the blanket statement for all of religion. Do not forsake yourself for a false god. This is all coming from an atheist.
