Why do you not know what an "assault weapon" is? Stop believing the propaganda bullshit. An AR-15 is not even an "assault weapon".

  • You do not have to be "obsessed" with weapons in order to be intelligent. "Assault Weapon" is a made up political term, they do not exist. It was created to make rifles with black plastic seem scary. An Assault Rifle is a rifle that is capable of fully-automatic fire. Civilian AR-15s are semi-automatic, unless you have one from a few decades ago that is fully automatic and have the licenses required in order to own one.

  •
You do not have to be "obsessed" with weapons in order to be intelligent.
Okey dokey, but I'm not quite sure of the correlation there...
"Assault Weapon" is a made up political term, they do not exist.
Okay.
An Assault Rifle is a rifle that is capable of fully-automatic fire.
So they do exist then? The initial quote seems a bit daft now...

  • If you could read, you would know "assault weapon" is different from "assault rifle"

  • Well, the rifles posted above aren't really "assault weapons". The only one that comes close is the M1 Carbine, given that they were used to storm Japanese held islands in WWII. But there are plenty of modern semiautomatic sporting rifles that are far superior to it today, and it also is viewed as a collectable or historic firearm.

  • If a criminal wants a gun he's going to get one. One way or another. Some people have Guns to protect them in these situations.

  • Any good reasons for non-criminals not to have them?

  •
Why do civilians need assault weapons in the first place?
When the Tyrannical government shows its ugly face.. you'll see.. Instead of fighting drones with semi-auto weapons.. you'll be bending over and having it shoot a missile up your ass instead. You have ZERO chance to fight back.

  • Are you implying that you can take out a MQ9-Reaper with an assault rifle or are you retarded? If a tyrannical government does come to fruition, assault weapons would be as useful as rocks. And I'm not talking about an loltyrannical regime like Assad, I'm talking about a gov. as powerful as the US (or the US, which is what you may be implying).

  • Especially against a military that will be ordered to retaliate during a civil war. I'm pretty sure rifles aren't going to do much against a military that has military grade weaponry and vehicles. But that's just me thinking.

  • Well, more than half of the military would not retaliate against American citizens, they would help the American citizens. I am in the military, and I am very skeptical about the things our government has been doing over the past decade and am preparing for martial law or an economic collapse.

  • There is no such thing as an 'assault weapon.'

  • Kinda, yeah. The term first showed up in the 80's to demonize semi automatic firearms that look a certain way.

  • assault weapon was a term literally invented by members of the brady bunch and the CSGV to demonize "scary black rifles" and confuse the public because it sounds so similar to assault rifles. this is fact, it is direct quotes from the people who invented the term.

  • None of those is an assault weapon. What does need have to do with it anyway? Why does anyone need a car that can go 100 mph? - Der

  •
None of those is an assault weapon. What does need have to do with it anyway? Why does anyone need a car that can go 100 mph? - Der
Not even remotely comparable. Firing the same type of ammunition from the gun will generally fire bullets with similar amounts of power. A gun isn't a car where you can press on the accelerator and increase the damage it does when fired.
