If he wants to play with them, you should.

I'd prefer not to subject my child to the ridicule and exclusion by other children that would result from it That and the fact that barbies are terrible toys for either gender anyway

  • Would you also not let your son be a catholic if he'd be ridiculed for it? If you truly think there's nothing wrong with your son doing something, why prevent him from doing it? Those that disapprove are wrong, and you could punish them with your son's new Spanish Inquisition Kit.

  • I used to play with barbies, and Bionicles. I usually made the bionicle robots kill the Barbie though...

  • You're worsening the problem, actually.

  •
I'd prefer not to subject my child to the ridicule and exclusion by other children that would result from it
That's unfortunate, but by discouraging him from playing it, you are indirectly promoting the idea of gendered toys. The reasoning is similar to people that argue that gay people shouldn't adopt since the children may be ridiculed, or that gay children shouldn't be out since people may bully them.

  • I think it's a bit different then that, being gay is an intrinsic part of a person's identity, but playing with barbies is not. And as I said before, I also don't want to give money to the company that makes barbies because I don't like them. I honestly probably wouldn't buy a barbie for my daughter either.
And as I said before, I also don't want to give money to the company that makes barbies because I don't like them. I honestly probably wouldn't buy a barbie for my daughter either.
That's a bit better. As long as your reasoning isn't based on gender stereotypes, or society's perception of them.
