Weapon Crafting

Destiny feature in Edge #257 uses the term crafting in reference to the weapon upgrade/customization features we've glimpsed already. I didn't get the issue myself so someone who did will have to fill us in on the context here. From the video which referenced it, they don't seem to go into greater detail in terms of their use of the word "crafting." But it alludes to potentially more than simply upgrading one's weapon. If weapons themselves are procedurally generated from modular pieces, or at least made from assets designed in a modular fashion, it could mean weapons are actually made of parts that could be scrapped and reassembled with compatible parts into other weapons. Provided players have the necessary resources. At least for the more non-unique builds of weaponry. Not the Thorn hand cannon for example. The option of not only customizing our weapon loot through upgrades, but taking the parts we like from procedural combinations and refashioning them to our desire could add a ton of depth to the loot cycle in the game if executed properly. If done poorly it could encumber the player with a mess of parts in inventory that he has to manage, uncertain whether discarding or trading them for more readily usable common resources is a good choice. Thoughts?
