The Origins Of The Traveller
I have gazed upon the face of the traveller. And it is a God.
Hi guys call me Byf.
If you've just watched the linked youtube video then you may be wondering more about the traveller. If not i'd suggest watching that right now. In summary through links made with Marathon, Cosmic Egg creation myths and Ancient Egypt Canable423 and I both managed to piece together the origin of the Traveller.

OK here are some of my own thoughts on the traveller. What if the darkness is actually some ancient powerful malevolent race. Their scientists decided to create an ultimate weapon. What then if that weapon became self aware and saw it's masters for the evil they were and escaped across the stars searching for benevolent souls to help it. Settling on earth it found something kindred in humanity. Sensing it's old masters had finally found it. It made a sacrifice of itself stopping the darkness and evolving some of humanity (the Awoken) hoping that humanity and the Awoken could help and repair it.

Khonsu stuff works but the rest of the Egyptian stuff is grasping at straws in my opinion. Bungie doesn't need to take everything in its entirety though. Khonsu may have been an inspiration, a starting point, but they might not have felt the need to use all of the mythology as a basis for their creation. I think Khonsu may have been an influence but nothing else so far fits without stretching a bit too far at present. Disagree with the marathon helmet theory, just don't see any resemblance other than them both being round. You would be more convincing if you spoke a bit faster, were less melodramatic and had more structure and focus to your argument. You seem to state everything as fact without anything to back it up and meander a fair bit. Also, I don't think you used the correct pronunciation for the Egyptian names. Fun little video though mate.

3 RepliesIt's name is a direct reference to Khonsu (who's official nickname was "Traveler"), the Egyptian god of the moon, life, and [later on] the slaughtering of enemies. Look him up :)
