And it didn't take that long. Old bungie killed of the Reach beta forum because it allowed the lies to show through. They then killed of the old forum because it had grown toxic - no matter that it also meant killing of the whole crimson direction and abandoning an indie startup in the process (screw then, who cares). And now bungie.next is hitting bottom. Yeah, high five bungie. So much hype, so little to show. Sit back and await the usual over-hyped disappointment.

 • Mad? ... nah, just humored that it has taken others this long to see the light. Its funny how so many on this forum see bungie as something other than a company (and one which needs to turn a profit). Days of them being individuals without debt other than their own invested time, they are long gone.

 • >implying that Bungie isn't more community oriented than most other developers. >implying the big developers only care about profit. >implying that all companies, including Valve, Bethesda, etc. are as bad as EA Games.

 •
implying that Bungie isn't more community oriented than most other developers
They are only "community" when it can bring them more sales. Ok, give you an example: Bungie Day. They started this back in 7/7/2007 and said it was all about promoting the game by playing it with the community. They even promised to give away steaks, to honor the steaktakular achievement in the game (shame US beef export and mad cow became enemies that year). But yet we now have "bungie week" and not a single game is being played. Why? They can still play Reach (even if they hate H4), all thats needed is XBL, some consoles, facebook session times and some willing staff. And yet we have nothing. Did the fans disappear? Is Reach not a game from bungies life? Did bungie get banned from XBL? Or did bungie [the company, not the community] just not see a commercial advantage in it this year. Perhaps even a disadvantage in promoting the Halo brand as it will now [shortly] have to compete against that same brand? Nothing implied ... bungie is a company, pure fact.

 • Bungie doesn't have ownership of the Halo franchise anymore. 343i owns Halo: Reach, so if you want to play Halo against its staff, I suggest you take your complaints to 343i.

 • They never did own Halo ... they sold that little wagon back in 2000. Plus "not owning" the game does not stop them playing ... if it is about community. But your right, it is not about the community, its about making money. As soon as bungie calculated that they would not get a cent they stopped playing - simple as that. As for 343 - yes they are hosting Halo 4 challenges. And it is better as it is being honest that it is a commercial setup. Even the prizes, flights paid for entry into a world play-off. But I guess you, given your criteria, would now also call 343 community focused? Or is your bias going to shine through here as well?

 • You don't get it. The Bungie community and the Halo community are now mutually exclusive. It's like walking into a library and demanding ice-cream.

 • So when did libraries ever sell ice-cream ?!? Now if your analogy was that the library removed the ice-cream vending machine because it was no longer making them money, then I could see your point. What you dont get is that bungie is a business, with a commercial focus. To give you another example, take halo out of the picture and look at Aerospace (aka waste-of-space). This project lasted less than a year, despite bungies promise made. And this has no one else to blame, just bungie. However none of these "starving" start ups trusted bungie commitment (and with good reason). After getting just one studio to sign up they dumped the whole project - removed support for that one studio. And why ... commercial reality trumps the "community" hype that bungie promote. And that ain't no ice-cream in a library, it is pure commercial judgement.

And yes Bungie has a sense of how to sell stuff, do you want them to just not make money and make awesome games for free? It's not feasible to build a strong company without having some market sense.

 • Not mad ... just trying to open some people eyes that bungie ARE a business, not a community. I agree with your money making direction ... and I was responding to the post asking "implying that Bungie isn't more community oriented than most other developers". I expected bungie to; - drop the "bungie day" game playing event, - stop mentioning the competing Halo brand, - focus on making money. They are a business.
