For me it's all about visuals and updates. PC games look better and normally get more updates.

  • Have you seen the graphics the next gen consoles, especially the PS4 can handle like 'The Division'? PC games having better graphics isn't so much of a valid argument come next gen consoles. As for updates, multiplatform console and PC games wouldn't really count for that either. They wouldn't update the PC version more, or update all versions more just because it's on PC. In fact if anything it'd slow the process down having to patch 5 platforms every time. Console graphics take huge leaps forward every generation, PC graphics haven't been changing all that much. With the specs of next gen consoles it's pretty much caught up. To make PC games with better graphics they'd have to make the system requirements unreasonably high and no one does that simply because unrealistic requirements don't work out to more sales. As someone who's been building gaming PCs since it was popular to OC those old Pentium 2 cartridges (not chips, they were big cartridges like memory with a huge passive heatsink) and sell them as Pentium 3s I think I can safely say we're coming to the end of the era of PC gaming superiority. As consoles got cheaper and more powerful and graphics cards got more expensive it was coming for a while. Now you can buy an entire console which will run any game for it at a steady framerate with no issues for the same price as a good graphics card, and get practically the same visual quality.

The visuals on next gen consoles look GREAT! But Can you upgrade any hardware inside? No... consoles have a shelf life that I don't like. The graphics on consoles age too fast. I built my computer around the age of the xbox360 and It still has better hardware then the xbox one. That's not a bad thing It's just how consoles are. When it comes to updates... My experience is consoles wait for the updates... They don't patch 5 ports at a time. My guess is (from years of experience playing both the console and PC ports) that they will patch the PC all the time and the consoles will get rolling updates. Consoles must make a huge leap because they will be playing catch up for the rest of their lifetime. End on PC gaming really? Have you ever heard of Steam? Consoles make gaming more readily available to people who would otherwise not play video games. The PC platform has been growing and still are. Consoles are just exploding in popularity. PC vs Consoles isn't like BluRay vs HDDVD... There is no "winner". Go back to building. You'll have your mind blown. You're missing out.

I didn't say the end of PC gaming, I said the end of PC gaming superiority. My point was every console generation prior PC was the clear winner for graphics quality, this generation that's not the case. PC gaming will never die simply because it's more conducive to the MMO, RTS and free to play game market. Those are all popular genres that are more common on PC and will probably stay that way for some time. The new generation games are using the x86 architecture which will make it easier to port to PC as well. Inexpensive and easy ports means there's nothing to lose by releasing games on PC as well once again keeping PC gaming alive. You missed or didn't understand when I said "end of PC gaming superiority" because I didn't mean the end of PC gaming, just that graphics are leveling out and the amazing stuff is starting to be on consoles first, like what we're seeing on The Division which is still unseen in terms of PC gaming. The issue has nothing to do with PCs being faster but rather the fact that no one on the market designs games for top end computers. The PS4 has hit a point where as amazing as the games we're seeing are, they still aren't fully utilizing the system's capabilities which has been where high end PCs have been for a long time. As for your last line, I have a very high end gaming computer I built about a year ago and it's on the same 50" LED TV that my PS3 is hooked up to so I can use it from the couch. No reason to "go back to building" when I can't find a game that even pushes my rig. New components come out every day, but name one PC game that actually requires one of the $2000 graphics cards out there and wont run on a high end custom from 2 years ago. Hell, the i5 2500k is still an amazing CPU for gaming compared to other options.

Me: "...End on PC gaming really..." Miss represented, sorry. "...this generation that's not the case." Well your wrong. Because my "one generation" old PC is better the ps4 and xbox juan (one w/e). The new generation of consoles is not as good as my "one generation" old pc. I'm sure sure how I can be more clear. "...this generation that's not the case." Are you talking about revenue earned? Or quality of gaming? Consoles win on the money making. PC win on quality of gaming. PCs are for Piracy and MMOs. (I think I understood that clearly) It's hard to argue with your one line of text because it sounds like a unintelligent conclusion. PCs for gamers and devs battle with piracy the same way Microsoft and Sony have to beg for a fan base for their consoles. Both make them lose money. Piracy sucks no argument there. I love consoles because they force devs to make their render engines more efficient. If I play a game made for the ps3 and later play a port made for the PC, it will run better on pc because of that push on efficiency on their limited hardware. My point is; Games designed for consoles run better on PC and games designed for non-high end PCs still run better on a PC. Every game runs better on a PC. I agree. We are seeing some damn good looking games come out on consoles first. This game might be on of them. But would the game still look better on today's PC hardware? Absolutely! Hardware isn't leveling out. Reference the pic in my last post. It is exponentially increasing. Do your own research if you need. You'll find you're mistaken. Who buys a $2000 video card again? A random rich guy? Not me, not my concern. My video card does just fine didn't cost a ton and is still better then next gen console hardware. Good investment in your PC, it's going to outlast the the console you haven't even purchased yet. If you could have everything your way on a PC port would you play it over a console release?

  • That's a tough question, I like my PC and all but I'm a total perfectionist and that's why I moved away a bit from PC building. I used to do major upgrades every time a new line of products came out that was a bit of an upgrade, was really into the overclocking circles. With PC building you end up in a situation where you literally never have the best and for a guy like me that's frustrating. And then you top that off with having a PC that even a year later is major overkill for pretty much everything on the market and it starts to feel pointless. But then on the other hand I can now buy a console with the genres I want since the MMO-style game is getting huge attention on next gen consoles and never have to worry about upgrading or anything like that and know that every game that gets released will play just fine with no graphics tweaks, no driver issues, etc. As much of a fun childhood and what not I had building PCs I plan on really making the switch with the PS4, getting used to a controller vs. keyboard & mouse and just go with it. PCs for the foreseeable future will have an edge on graphics, I don't doubt that just because you can do 16x AA and what not and really strain your system vs. a console locking your settings in so you have a constant FPS rather than occasional spikes. So to sum up and answer your question I'd stick with console in this coming generation.
