You already have one. It's called the "mute" button. Anybody who is muted by enough people receives a global mute. Instead of feeding the trolls over and over and then complaining about them, some of you... actually... a lot of you should try following our advice for once.

Believe me. Rose and his many alts have made us fully aware of the global mute feature.

  • The mute feature does not stop Camnator and Rose from creating 100 alts and spamming the shit out of the forums. Why can the moderators not moderate the forums?

  • Isn't it possible for one person to game the system then if they have enough alts?

  • No; the web team has made it clear that the system cannot be gamed that way. I don't know how they do it, but alt accounts can't force a global mute. Your best evidence is that it hasn't happened yet.... if it were possible, someone would have done it by now.

I suppose the best way to stop it would be to see if all of the mutes are coming from the same IP. Or maybe it's just unfeasible to do because you would need too many accounts to enforce a global mute. Either way, you're right: If there was a way somebody would have found out how to do it by now.

  • So a global mute is basically like an IP ban that will stop all of Rose's alts?

  • Look man, we didn't have these kinds of issues as often when it was The Flood. Tell us about how something technically works over and over, and how the system technically works, but the absolute fact of the matter which you can argue about with numbers until the cows come home is that it simply doesn't work as well as the flood. If you have to tell and get annoyed with people for not knowing about the muting or whatever, then something clearly isn't working.
some of you... actually... a lot of you should try following our advice for once
And frankly, these kinds of sarcastic comments belittle the moderating team and make you look just a little... actually... very ignorant. That is the kind of post I would choose to mute. Why is it that every other forum in existence gives moderators this tool called "lock" or "ban," or "release the ninjas," a system that worked very well on the old forums, but when people agree that it is a better option than the "mute" button which only serves individual purposes, you lot yell at us? Fact of the matter is this; Mute alone doesn't work well, numbers or otherwise. You guys are moderators, and the only moderating i've seen since bungie.next could be summarised by "hurp durp you suck go mute them don't you idiots know about the mute feature GAWD you're all so stupid listen to what we're telling you." Why not regain the functionality of allowing moderators to lock and hide threads, so this crap doesn't happen on a daily basis? (and yes, that refers to both the threads and this asinine response of "mute them.") Thank You - Everybody who used The Flood.

  • YES! I completely agree, we need to go back to the old setting. The mods had a decent idea with the mute option but it's not as good as them locking threads. And with the new system in place, we can't play the game of inb4. God I loved that game.

I know that's a novel concept and that's not to say a support the mute button. There is no reason for it at all. There is no reason for locking either. 1. Don't go into threads you don't want to. 2. Don't feed the trolls It's that simple and no one seems to be able to wrap their heads around it. If you like the mute button then use it. If you don't don't. .old is over just like all the versions before it, or to bring back an old favorite of mine. Adapt.

  • How many mutes is required for a global mute?

  • Someone should make an alt and post a thread where everyone mutes that account then posts that they've done it. Have an observer watch the thread until it no longer appears, then have the account check the number of replies.

  • I don't know; the Bungie web team keeps that info to itself. But I'm led to believe that the threshold is not unreasonable :-)

  • Hypothetically speaking: what if someone got on a bunch of alts and muted a user until they were globally hidden?

  • This is more fun than muting people. Come on, Foman. Surely you can figure that out.
