Climactic Events in Destiny

Public Events: One of the things that was revealed during Bungie's E3 presentation was the inclusion of Public Events in Destiny. Public Events provide an opportunity for numerous players to interact and fight together to accomplish an objective. While the idea of Public Events is cool enough as-is, I think they provide an opportunity for Bungie to develop the story and alter the game world in a way were players can directly effect the outcome. How would it work? These game changing Public Events would be larger than the average Public Event, ranging into the dozens, possibly hundreds of players. Due to the large impact that these events would have on the Destiny Universe, players would receive fair notice of these events prior to when they happen. For example, players receive a notification on their HUD every time they log-in that says, "ALERT: FALLEN BOMBER EN-ROUTE TO LAST CITY. ETA - 48hrs." With fair notice, players can clear their calendars and get ready for the fight. After the 48 hours are up, the Fallen Bomber comes into view, along with a large ground force. The Guardians present must stop the ground force, as well as take down the Fallen Bomber before it reaches the Last City. If they succeed, the Fallen Bomber crashes creating a new landmark, "Fallen Crashsite." In addition to this new landmark, the Guardians salvage a piece an experimental piece of technology which would allow the Fallen to harness the Traveler's power. When used by the Guardians, it unlocks several abilities not previously accessible to them. However, if the Guardians are unable to halt the Fallen advance, the Last City will be assaulted by the Fallen. This assault would result in civilian casualties, lowering the guardians morale, and decreasing the amount of XP earned by players for a set amount of time. In addition to the assault on the City, the Fallen deploy a new type of soldier; the Fallen Shock Trooper. This new enemy type radically changes how players approach the Fallen in combat, and refreshes the face of a rather stale enemy. What do you think? I'll admit, something like this may be a bit too much to ask for, but that's part of the fun of brainstorming. Regardless, how would you feel if something like this were implemented in Destiny? Do you have any suggestions or critiques? Feel free to post your thoughts below.

 • I cant imagine even with a window of time like that , that it be fair to those with jobs like me or who have classes like most of my co-workers and friends , you can hardly call off work or skip a class because you receive a message saying : ALERT: FALLEN BOMBER EN-ROUTE TO LAST CITY. and then what happens that time you don't make off in time or the person's class takes longer than expected , and the city falls because not enough people made it home to help , as you said ; This assault would result in civilian casualties, lowering the guardians morale, and decreasing the amount of XP earned by players for a set amount of time. and then you feel like crap because real life prevented you from helping and now everyone has to deal with the consequences .
