They're actually a good deal greater than current-gen platforms that are nearing a decade in age (their custom-designed parts have offset the bulk of that, fortunately). Most of the stuff you're seeing now has been rushed for a release at launch, much like how the first 360 and especially the first PS3 games looked like glorified Xbox titles.
However, I digress, at least on the point of the plateauing of console hardware. It looks like this jump won't be as big as the jump from the standard-def Xbox to the HD 360.

I respect your opinion. But I am still very disappointed with these consoles. To me, it seems like a major software update's equivalence. The games all seem like carbon copies of how they each play. There are differences between them, sure. But more and more companies are jut trying to be the game with the most cinematic, and best graphically designed game out there. They all are starting to get those high octane moments that are overly used. ex. Crysis 2, and Crysis 3. Don't get me wrong, I love Crysis, but I saw basically the same moment twice, one in Crysis 2, and the other in Crysis 3. What happened to the days when games differed greatly from one another? It's just a bunch of generic regurgitated video games.

If you're into new and exciting games that break new ground and are different from the mainstream, I suggest taking a look at the PC scene, specifically Steam. A lack of publisher troubles lets creation shine. Ironically, however, the "Indie" genre has also stagnated somewhat - apart from a few outliers, what you'll mostly see is a bunch of copy-cat 2D platformers. Games cost more to make now - much like Hollywood, the rise of interactive media is such to the point that many companies don't take any risks for fear of financial failure. It's why you see movie after movie of cliched action dribble. The only thing is the development process for games is potentially a lot longer and more laborious than film, which is why you're experiencing what you are. Hopefully this generation of consoles does something to offset this stagnation, and the PS4 does look like it is giving smaller developers like Oddworld a chance.

Personally, I think the problem of regurgitated games is partly because of the current generation of consoles, I think that we've simply reached the limit of what they can do, and games are starting to stagnate now because there isn't room for improvement on the current consoles.

Edited by agent texas359: 7/14/2013 8:32:30 AMI'm getting the Xbox one because I have faithfully bought and played play station games for over half my life and when I was introduced to Xbox I decided to support Microsoft. That and halo 5 is coming out on one and my clan is to be set up on the Xbox one so that sways where I put my saving toward.

Evidently you never heard of this little, new company called Nintendo.

Nintendo is over 100 years old kid

Sarcasm. It is there. Nintendo is 120+ years old and was originally a playing card company.
