The French have some of the finest artistic taste in all the world, have a well-maintained and civilised culture and a proud history. France is twice the country the USA is.
Also, if you're a white male from England or the US posting in this thread, there's a high chance you actually have a French descendent. If you're a US citizen, you can thank the French for your freedom.

A proud history of losing. On that note does anyone want to buy this old French WWII rifle I have? Its never been fired in anger and only dropped once.
-
I have French descendents.? This is news to me seeing as I was unaware that I had any descendants at all, let alone French ones.
-
Odd considering I'm Slovakian.

French, Irish, English, Italian and Scottish 3 Last names found by blood on my dads side-NOT by marriage, legal changes from the male side of the family Lots of criminals in the family......... (Last one 1600's, Arrested for fighting in NH, Bandit clan in England, came to france with Charlemagne)
-
The french can thank America and the UK for freedom too. And that is far more recent history.
-
The chance of have any kind of french blood in america is entirely dependent upon the location of the person. If they are from the south eastern area, than yes, but if they are from the northern area, no. My family has lived here for generations and i am 50% German, 25% Russian, 25% Irish. So you need to learn your demographics. Considering the fact the the french inhabited area was contained mostly to the South, and that it happened so long ago, and that America has had ALOT of immigration since then, it is probably safe to say that the chance of having French ancestry is mostly likely no more than, 25%, give or take. As for the owing the french our freedom... Yes partly, anyway, because they did help a lot during our revolution, but most of the work was done by us, naturally. HEY INTERNET! GUESS WHAT? I used LOGIC in an argument in a way that wasn't offensive.

France is a fine nat.... I'm sorry I can't say this with a serious face

The French, 'civilised'? how so?

For the vast, vast majority of English or American white males, the chances that they have a French descendant are zero.
Wrong. For the vast, vast majority of English or American white males, the chances that they have a French descendant are zero.
For the English? the 'vast majority' is probably wrong. A lot of people have Norman blood in them following the 11th Century occupation. It wouldn't be a particularly risky bet that any white male with an 'English' surname has Anglo-Saxon and Norman blood in them
-
That's an interesting statement, but utterly irrelevant.
-
are you on crack?
-
No. Are you?
-
No, but what I said made sense. What you said was...odd. If I start acting odd, people will think something is up. Some may even suggest I'm taking crack. It was a question asked out of concern
-
It wasn't odd at all. For the vast majority of American or English white males, the chances that they have a French descendant are utterly zero. Your post was irrelevant to that observation. Doesn't take crack to realize that.

Edited by RIP delta: 7/12/2013 7:20:06 AMHow so? when one in twenty Brits can trace their ancestry to France, with England being more saturated that places like Scotland, it is probably a higher ratio in England. Now if you discount the 20.2% non-'white British' residents of England, the 'one-in twenty' stat is slightly higher now (like 7.2% as a crude minimum) These are those who definitely have French ancestry. Therefore those who have a 'chance' of French Ancestry somewhere, given the European tendency to have a mix of everywhere, is obviously higher than the 7.2%. Whilst obviously still a minority (this is discounting people who you could identify as 'French' by parentage who are now British residents (there are some 300,000-400,000 French people living in London alone)), 7.2% is still a reasonable slice of the White British Male population. Though really, who can define the exact figure for qualification of 'vast majority'
-
What? Why are you talking about ancestry?
-
Edited by RIP delta: 7/12/2013 2:17:07 PMAre you trolling me? Your original quote:
Wrong. For the vast, vast majority of English or American white males, the chances that they have a French descendant are zero.
to which I said that was unlikely to which you said that my post was "utterly irrelevant". Given it was a direct response to something you said, was anything but - so I accused you of being on crack. My post about the proportion of white English males with french descendants is completely relevant.
It wasn't odd at all. For the vast majority of American or English white males, the chances that they have a French descendant are utterly zero. Your post was irrelevant to that observation. Doesn't take crack to realize that.
By saying that ~7% as a minimum can claim French ancestry, it shows at least a reasonably sizable minority of Englishmen have definite French ancestry. You are claiming that the 'vast majority' have "utterly zero" chance of being tied to the French, which is clearly false. Firstly because what the hell qualifies as 'vast majority', and secondly because of the fact that there exist an estimated 3 million Brits with French ancestry, which doesn't take into account people of other European ancestry that are likely to also have merging with the French. So again, crack? EDIT: SORRY FOMAN!

FoMan is talking about descendants (which haven't been born yet) delta is talking about ancestors - what you say is correct about the normans.
