Healing all too often is a binary abillity. Either it's too underpowered or useless, or it's so dominant that it warps the metagame around itself. How many MMOs are there where you have to have a healer or else you don't stand a chance in certain encounters, dungeons, and pvp matches? In a game like Destiny where we will have a ton of choice in directions where we can take our characters, it would be a shame if every Warlock was pressured into becoming a healer because the metagame demands that every fire team has a healer.
No, it's better to build an element of self healing that doesn't need to be invested into for every Guardian, and that way we can have Warlocks that are offensive and Warlocks that are support, and it should take some pressure off the metagame.
