I'm hoping that the classes will have different skill paths that you can choose depending on your playstyle, e.g. Borderlands 2. I would love to be able to spec my Warlock for team support when I'm playing with my fireteam, then switch to a solo build when I play my own story.
This, coupled with the weapon trait trees they've shown, will hopefully give us quite a bit of customization for our characters :)

Weapon trees may only be for exotic weapons like the Thunderlord though.

My guess (pure speculation): The exotic weapons will have a more robust upgrade tree, like the exploding rounds. Regular weapons will only have the +accuracy, +ammo, etc. In one of the E3 demos (watched so many I don't know which, lol) I remember them mentioning weapons will level up the more you use them. I hope it applies to every weapon :)

Ah right, yeah, that would be good and fair! I only guessed for exotic weapons because during the gameplay at E3 it seemed only the exotic had a weapon tree, but they did not exactly look at the other weapons in depth and it may be something they add later since the game is nowhere near complete yet.
