Factions, a choice that must matter!

This is my first post, but the Destiny universe inspire me greatly and I want to contribute to its success. In a game, if we choose to put in place something, it must add to the gameplay experience. And for me, a faction system have a lot of potential. In other games, they use factions as a quest path for some rewards, to justify PvP or to specify game mechanics advantages and disadvantages. But for Destiny, I want something more than this. First of all, for me a faction should represent a philosophy, an ideal that we want to follow, something that will complement my style of play or just simply because they look cool. My other request is that being part of a faction should give me a feeling that I have a goal and proud of being part of it. Because of the persistent nature of Destiny, a strong faction should have a strong influence on the game universe. What I really want to see in Destiny, it is a faction system that I will see an advantage to be part of and be proud to show my devotion to a particular cause. One way to achieve this is to have different level of membership and advantages associated with them. When you select a faction you become a recruit and you can have access to weaponry, armor and spaceship options only available for this faction. But as you accumulate faction honor points, by doing faction quests, winning faction wars, help other members or simply represent their philosophy. You will eventually reach a membership threshold and become a full member. As a full member, you have access to special class abilities, unique weaponry, armors and spaceships that are in accordance with their philosophy. If you continue your good work you can achieve elite and champion status and greater advantages awaits you. One more thing, I want players to be proud of their accomplishments and be able to show them to others in a visual way. For each level of membership, for each class, they should have their own distinctive keepsakes, something visually attractive and distinctive. I want players to be able, in a glance, to identify his badass level and say something like “Cool, an elite titan from New Monarchy, he will help us”. Finally, everything about the factions should be the responsibility of Bungie. This means that everything about the factions should be the dominion of Bungie, but guided by the actions of the players. They will script their conflicts, their struggles in accordance with their vision of the Destiny universe.

    • I feel that bungie is overworked as it is. People were demanding so much more from such a expensive game, and was disappointed, so Bungie added more to the game. Yet the players still want more. Now Bungie is stuck in the never ending cycle of adding content and DLCs until the day destiny dies. In the long run, factions are a good idea, but to what extent can Bungie handle?

    • They have the future war cult and dead orbit that I've seen so far. Get to 20 buy a cloak or band or w.e from them and complete bounties and such to earn rep with them to get their goods. Not so much pvp but it's a step in the right direction.

    • That's a pretty cool layout for your hopes of a faction. I would also like it to mean and be more. There is still a lot we don't know about them. I do have a question for factions though...If it's been asked I'm sorry...and sorry if it's a stupid question... But once a faction is chosen, are we locked into that faction for the entire life of our guardian? It's been stated that we only have 3 chracter slots. Although it's cool to have 3 slots for the 3 classes it's kind of not enough to experiment with the race, class and gender variations. Because basically we have 3 classes 3 races and 2 genders... That's 18 variations rightt? But only 3 slots. I'd hate to create delete and create again over and over till I can decide what I want for my 3 slots. .....course it forces me to choose but...idk..more slots would mean more diversity since we can try them all out way easier. Hell, each different character can even be in a different faction....I know there's going to be a lot of end game content...but it would be cool to have an option with each of our guardians to play through the different factions on each separate slot. Higher gameplay value instead of just doing high level missions with the same 3 guardian's over the course of Destiny 1. If the character counts not 3 I apologize.

        • It doesn't really matter to be honest, there's only so much bungie can do. You're thinking too hard about it.

          • I don't know if you will gain faction specific abililties or not, but there are faction specific weapons which I would assume could only be obtained by being a member of that faction...Now once Bungie gets the in game trading system working (not available at release) would I be able to purchase another faction's weapon from another player? Or can we trade only non-faction weapons (my guess)...that has not been addressed yet. But I like your idea

            • Perhaps certain factions are on better or worse terms with some of the foes. This may let you bribe your way past certain races.

            • The only way I could see choosing a faction matter would be if there was open world PvP areas. Other than that I think its just a story based element

            • It would be interesting if your faction choice showed when you were in cut scenes and interacting with NPCs in the Tower or other social places. Any "rebellious" factions would be constantly glared at by the robot guards of the city. Say the fight just finished and you saved an official person, if you are in one of those "rebel" factions, then the official would be very negative towards you and if in a "orderly" faction then he would thank you graciously and offer you something (which you would OBVIOUSLY deny because your HUMBLE and stuff). Hobos or less fortunate species would look to the "rebels" for hope and spit at the "orderly" faction members... it would be interesting.

              • Awesome idea, Also something I'd like to add to it.. I would like if there was some sort of player leadership structure in each faction. (not sure what the position names would be) but examples like a "leader" "vice leader" "commander" "some fourth kind of leadership position?". Initially to acquire these positions, the players in each faction would have to do some kind of hard mission and earn a cool title like "Founding [faction name] Leader", and there are weekly competitive challenges for the leadership positions. The purpose for these leaders would be to have special functions during faction wars that will help guide their faction to victory. But as you mentioned, there would be the basic faction rank recognition as you progress within that faction

              • Te biggest problem with having factions is the conflict aspect. Why would the last of humanity break onto factions and fight while humanity is being destroyed.
