In 1965, the US passed the Voting Rights Act. This was to protect minorities from being discriminated against when trying to vote. The clause in question, which required states with a history of racial discrimination to confer with the federal government before changing any voting laws, has seemingly been tossed by SCOTUS on the grounds of "we've changed, we don't need it anymore"
Meanwhile, two hours after the decision, Texas is working on two bills that would make it harder for minorities, the poor, etc, to vote.
