You enlisted in the Navy, and you don't know how to swim ?
Why not Army or Chair Force ?

Chair Force is too lazy for my taste. I was planning to do Army, but when I talked to the Navy Recruiter, I saw some better benefits. Plus, I scored a 71 on my ASVAB; and felt that it would be kind of a waste going to the Army, as they only require a 35.

There are plenty of jobs in all branches for higher scores. and I thought Army/Marines were 31 Anyway i'd advise spending this summer learning, you're gonna need to be a strong swimmer when you want to go AWOL to visit some women sun bathing on the shore.

Wouldn't "being able to swim" be mandatory in the navy?

You need to know how to swim, but you don't have to be an excellent swimmer.
