$100-200 I would imagine is the norm if you aren't poor since that is enough to get you out of most issues without the need of a credit card.

But if you're rich you're not gonna need that much cash anyways since everything can mostly be done with a card.

True, but you never know when those credit cards might max out. As a result an extra 3k in cash is necessary.

Not to mention if it's a big purchase and you aren't using a card most people usually write a check cause I have never heard of someone having $3k in their wallet at any given time.

Not true. It depends on if you have set a limit and if there is money in the account. Also I will agree having $3k in your wallet at any time is absurd and really you should only have at most like $300 maybe $400 on you and even then that is a bit extreme.
