Hold on a minute here.
While Huckabee worries that tax breaks from the government places restrictions on political speech
Due to their tax-exemption, they can neither endorse or oppose certain candidates in an election. With this tax exemption taken away, a church can endorse any candidate that they so choose. This would lead to another source of funding for politicians. I knew there was something fishy with this.

You act like they don't do that already.
-
They don't. They can't come out and say "Vote for Obama!". They can discuss polices, but they can't endorse or oppose candidates.
-
Doesn't mean they don't do it anyway within their own churches. Just because they don't do it officially doesn't mean they don't do it at all.

I'm pretty sure if a priest does it he will get in trouble with the parish. Although it is probable that it may have happened unnoticed in the past.

>implying they actually care This stuff already goes on quite a bit. There's already been problems in the past with churches engaging in politics, a good example prop 8 in California which was largely funded and driven by the various christian churches in the state.

Yeah that seems to be it, there would be no other reason for a conservative Christian politician to call for the removal of tax exemption from religious institutions.

You men excluding Scientology. I bet they'd do anything to bring down Scientology. Though frankly, who wouldn't?
-
Yeah Scientology is a scam and I don't know why it got tax exempt status.

Because they are rolling in dough and can schmooze people in high places.
