tax codes treat churches differently from other non-profit groups
Can someone explain this? I was not aware that religious and secular NPO's are treated differently. In addition, I don't understand Huckabee's statement that accepting tax exemption inhibits freedom.

 • Tax-exempt organizations, like churches, are barred from certain types of political advocacy.

 • I was under the impression that no tax exempt organizations could take part in partisan activities. If Huckabee is saying that churches should give up their exempt status in order to be able to express a political view, I would tend to disagree. IMO it seems inappropriate for a church to do so anyways. I haven't thought of it until now, so my opinion is shallow at best.

 • I believe they're allowed to engage in issue advocacy, but not endorse specific candidates.
