What they're trying to achieve here is to turn all game titles into digital entities, just like Steam
You mean just like the XBL market place, right? Because while steam is dirt cheap XBL market place never drops it's price, and since no one's complaining about that, M$ has no reason to make a different system, or did every X1 defender forget that M$ already has a digital distribution service?

I clearly stated in the OP that Microsoft is moving from the disc/digital separate model to one that is a fusion of both. Obviously if they're moving in this direction then their XBL store will become more developed and mature over time, especially if they want people to use it more than people are with their current model. You have to realise that Microsoft isn't run by a bunch of idiots who have no idea what they're doing, taking the overly cynical and childish approach to these types of things and saying "they won't have any reason to change hurrr it'll be a ripoff" is a waste of typing time. I don't know what Microsoft are planning for the future but they're not taking risks for no reason. Also using M$ with a dollar sign is pretty old.

*Looks at windows 8 *Looks at Ballmer *looks at that one guy who's been getting a new ass hole teared due to his comments *looks at how the gaming industry has a track record of not changing it's business model if said model is raking in loadsamoney *looks at publisher's last failed attempt to force DRM through scapegoats *looks at how out of touch rich people can be with their consumers *looks at Ballmer and that guy again................ If my views are "cynical and childish" then I'm proud to be the most sardonic 5 year old you'll ever meet..........................

Steam initially had massive backlash due to the sweeping changes it was willing to provide to the PC game market, and it only started becoming profitable after three years of service. You're witnessing the creation of something similar, and you're shooting it down before it even begins. So yes, I could possibly describe you as a sardonic 5 year old if you want me to.

Thing is, steam has already made their mistakes, M$ (Yes i'm going to call them that, no it's not worth mentioning) doesn't have to shove their heads in the sand (or arse) and make the same mistakes, they can already see the end result of a working system and just say "alright, let's do exactly that". And I'd rather shoot down a bad idea before it happens when my voice can actually have an effect, than to wait until it happens and waste my time preaching to the choir (If it turns out to be bad, then you wont need me to tell you it's bad) (and heck, if I waited a few years then started complaining then people would complain that I didn't complain sooner; damned if you do, damned hared if you don't)
