I almost immediately recognised it as a Halo trailer when the music started playing, the choir was awesome and I still get goosebumps at the bit that plays when John looks up at the Forerunner construct at the end. Hopefully they've got Neil and Kazuma back for Halo 5's OST, Halo 4's was the best since ODST in my opinion - which I'm sure will be received most graciously by this totally fair-minded and unbiased site...

 • I personally think ODST had the best soundtrack. But Halo 4 definitely put their own twist on it

 • ODST's soundtrack is absolutely divine, it and Halo 4's are my absolute favourites - funnily enough, both represent a completely different atmospheric and tonal shift away from the main trilogy's music.

 • So true. The main trilogy soundtrack felt like more of a Godly thing because of the choir. But ODST felt like more of a graceful masterpiece. Kind of like a ballerina dancing to rock music but making it look badass and keeping her elegance.

 • Agreed. And while I did like the main trilogy's soundtrack, I just felt like a lot of the time I was just listening to the same tracks which were either slightly redone or just appeared for the nostalgic value. That, and all that weird shit they put in Halo 2's OST with groups like Incubus and Hoobastank... still no idea what on earth that was all about whereas some of the remixes in the Halo 4 OST were really good (the Awakening one in particular was bloody amazing!).

 • I absolutely LOVE Legacy, it's one of those tracks which defines everything about Halo's story and captures the atmosphere of a mysterious alien planet without even trying. Up there with In Amber Clad as my favourite track in the series.

 • I think something that would make the soundtrack better is if Neil and Kazuma worked together on the songs rather than creating them separately. It wouldn't happen, but while Neil is good at creating emotion and setting the tone, Kazuma is much better at keeping consistency between tracks, 117, Mantis and Sacrifice being examples of that. If Neil and Kazuma were to work on the soundtracks together, we'd not only have something that sounds amazing, but a soundtrack where each track fits with the others perfectly.

 • That was my only real issue with Halo 4's soundtracks, Neil Davidge's didn't really sound too much like Halo :/ They were great pieces and I love listening to most of them, but they don't really sound like they belong to Halo, it sounds like it's the soundtrack of another series that got transplanted into the game...I've likened it before to taking the soundtrack from Lord of the Rings or Star Wars and switching the two of them, both great soundtracks, but they wouldn't really work at all with the other movie. The other composer for Halo 4, Kazuma had it down much better, 117 has its own style, but it still sounds like Halo. What they should really use as their model to emulate is Halo Wars, it has a fantastic soundtrack that still sound unique and all its own, but you can instantly place it as Halo if you're a fan of the games and know the music. And 343i definitely need to work on their overall sound system within the game.....all of the various effects (weapons, vehicles, etc.) should not drown out the music or the dialogue, which was one of the biggest problems with Halo 4's overall experience for me. Even with appropriate options turned up and down, the other sound effects still drowned out the music and dialogue and if I want to hear what was being said or what the characters were talking about I had to stop what I was doing in order to listen.
