There is no reason for this other than data mining and probably to help force xbox live.

This isn't as much about piracy as it is to allow the "no disc" feature the xbox one has. Honestly, I will be quite happy that I don't have to keep my stack of discs right next to my tv/ entertainment system. Can you think of ANY other way this feature is possible?
-
Yeah with steam, you buy the game online and you can play it forever, online or offline.
-
...seriously ken, you are better than that. I'll let you figure out what is wrong with that argument. If you haven't in five minutes, I will come back and give you all the problems with what you just said.
-
Now the suspense is killing ME...what is wrong with his argument?! He hasn't figured it out! TELL US!
-
And to enforce DRM.
-
It's to authenticate that you are playing legit copies of games.
-
You're an idiot if you really believe that.
-
I don't even know what to say to that... Care to explain your thought process?
-
You honestly believe that the reason they require you to connect every 24 hours is to make sure you're playing legitimate copies of your games?
-
It makes sense... Why do you think they are making it connect every 24 hours?
-
Lol. To shove advertising down your throat. The same reason why any game has always on DRM.
-
Advertising? So you think the whole reason to have the Xbox connect every 24 hours is to update the ads in the dashboard?
-
It should only have to do it once then. Also console piracy was never a big issue or else we wouldn't have a new console if it was hurting them that much.
-
Also console piracy was never a big issue or else we wouldn't have a new console if it was hurting them that much.
Please assure me you're joking. So music piracy isn't a big deal either else they wouldn't keep coming out with new music if it was hurting them that much, right? That's idiotic. >.<

Edited by Spartan Ken 15: 6/6/2013 11:52:57 PMMy point is that piracy is not hurting the console industry with them selling Millions of copies of AAA games. Piracy is a service problem, look at Steam's success against pirates, it sells games at a fair price and provides a free service that has pretty minimal DRM for the most part.
-
You're right, the used game industry is what is hurting the console industry.
-
My point is that piracy is not hurting the music industry with them selling millions of copies of Albums.
-
agreed. I Buy Skyrim, it verifies DRM on activation, then I go offline forever. It's wonderful and how games should be used with DRM. This daily DRM checking that xbox is doing is stupid.
-
No... it's not a "minimal" DRM. lol Don't be dumb.
-
You download the game and you never have to connect online again. Also games on Steam are extremely cheap compared to console games because of sales. Steam allows gamers to have a huge collection of games anywhere they want with less nonsense.

Edited by Nitron F117: 6/6/2013 11:46:22 PMWell, because they allow you to share your games, they have to verify that only one copy of the game is being used at one time. It's like now, if you take your disk over to a friend's house, no one back at your house can play that game, because they no longer have the disk. But now that games are installed, and the disk not required to play, you could have multiple copies of a game on multiple consoles, while only having paid for one copy. The 24 hour check in is to make sure that if your copy of a game is used on another Xbox, your copy is deactivated. When you reactivate your copy, the one you put in the other console is deactivated.
-
There's a simpler and less intrusive way to do that. Just allow 2 installs per disk. Or two passes per purchase. So yeah I'm not buying that.
-
You can't be that stupid...that would cut there profits in half unless they double the price of games, lol.
-
I read in another thread they would allow you to share your game with another person. But thinking about it you are right, you could sell your pass to someone or sell your install. Damn, but there still has to be another way.
