No, and no.
Really at this point the only reason to make the next Doctor a female would be to specifically pander to dumbfuck feminists that don't even watch the show. Despite the fact that the Doctor is specifically designed to allow for many different people to play the character I just can't see a female Doctor being able to do justice to the role.

Interesting you should mention feminists, it's one of those that is the reason I created this thread...

Edited by General Noooobus: 6/3/2013 1:18:55 PMPutting women in things for no other reason than to appease feminists seems to be a thing these days. Just look at Microsoft's Xbox One reveal, the two women who took part were only there because Sony didn't have any and retards complained. I fear the same thing will happen to Dr Who, although this trend doesn't seem as bad in the rest of the world as it does in the U.S. so there may be some hope yet. Hopefully Moffat will resist the pressures to cast a female just for the sake of it and choose the person most suited to the role, whoever that maybe.
-
Well, you know, one of the women at the Xbox One presentation was the head of 343... And I really don't see Moffat being pressured into anything. Casting the Doctor as a woman is exactly the sort of thing I think he'd want to do.
-
That woman was the president. Big difference between that and the 'head of 343i' who does something completely different.

Edited by SonOfTheShire: 6/3/2013 5:06:10 PMWell, she's still important, and, being president, she seems like the right person to talk about the TV thing. And why isn't she the head of the company? She's the president!
-
You misunderstand me. She isn't involved in development at all, she caters towards the business side of it all with Microsoft. The president likely had next to nothing to do with the actual development of Halo 4.
-
I know she's not the head of game development - that's Frankie's job. But given that the TV thing has nothing to do with game development, it seems appropriate that the actual company head would be the one to talk about it.
-
it seems appropriate that the actual company head would be the one to talk about it.
Not when the target demographic for the game you're trying to pitch is 12-25 year old males. She was a publicity stunt, nothing more. Only there because showing diversity in the workplace is more important than making good products, and also because Sony had no females.
-
Edited by SonOfTheShire: 6/3/2013 11:28:40 PMYou only think it's a publicity stunt because it's unusual, and it's only unusual because whenever a woman gets up at a video game conference everyone calls it a publicity stunt. And they weren't pitching a game! It was a TV deal thing, which makes her, the president of the company, the ideal person to announce it. Unless you want to specifically pander to the sexists.

I'm not a Star Trek fan so I really have no idea but didn't they make one of their adaptations of the show with a female captain and it was a huge failure?
-
I didn't think Star Trek Voyager was that bad.
-
Like I said, I'm not a fan so I have no idea. My very basic knowledge of the situation is a female captain (but possibly just the actor) ruined it.
