Option 1, and only option 1. And for god's sakes use an actual bow tie rather than a clip on.
If you're the only person in the room wearing a bow-tie, then untie it and let it hang down the front of your shirt.

I'm really not feeling the bow tie any more, and having seen the majority of people walking past my block wearing suits with regular ties, I'm thinking open collar is a thousand times better. After all, it's just a summer ball. It's not some swanky dance affair, it's a music stage where Rudimental and JLS are playing, a carnival, loads of bars and a casino. The third option is feeling more and more appealing by the minute.

This is exactly what it says on the site's FAQ: [quote][b]What should I wear?[/b] The Ball is a posh do. We’d recommend a Tux/Suit for the men and a Ball Gown/Dress for the ladies.[/quote] The only place it says it's black tie is on the ticket.
