It's so God damn easy I don't get why no one thought of this yet. I posted this earlier a few months back but I think it was ignored. Before you start flaming me for my warped view of reality, at least read the whole thing
Give Civil Unions the same benefits as Marriage, and let Heterosexual couples be allowed to have Civil Unions. That would eliminate any "Separate but Equal" bullshit out of the water. But wait, there's more! Legalize Gay Marriage across the country, but let individual churches choose whether or not to accept the marriages. If Gay couples really wanted marriage they should have no problem finding a small local church to hold their wedding, and if they cant find a church to approve of it, there is always a Government equivalent with the same benefits.
Bam! Boom! Solved. Where's my medal?

13 Replies in this Sub-ThreadStill not equal if churches can legally marry two individuals and the churches can decide not to allow specific couples to get married. I'd love to see America embrace the constitutional "Separation of Church and State" clause and remove legal power from religious instituations but this in 'Merica, where the supreme law of the land is basically irrelevant except for oh so special second amendment.

Edited by BasementDoor: 5/28/2013 2:37:13 AMNo you are correct. The pastor preforms the ceremony which is a covenant between two people and God. THEN the legal documents which are given by the court are signed by the bride and groom and a couple witnesses which is usually the pastor but it can be anyone. The pastor has no authority in the legal matters he just acts as a witness.

I think what people don't understand is that marriage is more than a legal agreement to Christians. And I think what Christians don't understand is that when marriage is legalized they will have every right to deny religious ceremony to homosexual couples. If the government took that right away we would have a big problem.
