I agree. I understand the benefits, its possible the world isn't even on the disk and we have to access it from their servers allowing for expansion and larger worlds possible than on disk. They could seamlessly add content (although so few studios would give content away for free). There are plenty of options with such an architecture, but I agree, always online games are pretty unforgiving for people without internet, or people with spotty internet.
I am pretty sure they've explicitly stated its always online, but I could be wrong.
I am curious what happens if you have an Xbox live silver account. You can connect and access many of Xbox Live's features, but you can't connect to other people. Does that mean we can play Destiny, but it will be empty???

I am so glad sony is free and I don't have to worry about what level of precious metal online I have. I pay my internet provider enough to play online.

Yeah, As you can see my post was prior to the big E3 announcement. I am not happy that Sony has decided to this. It is an unfortunate evil. That being said I'm already a plus member so no change for me really, but I am disappointed with this decision for those that are not plus members.

Xbox live is where my friends are, so getting a PlayStation for me would be counter productive. Plus Microsoft gives me free Microsoft points, and occasionally free months of Xbox Live. Besides, $40 a year isn't bad (buy it around black friday).
-
That's always a rough situation, you'd have to switch all your friends, which is likely why you're rationalizing it (for lack of a better word). Person above is right though, why pay for online service when you already pay Internet? Paying less is still paying, I'm waiting for Microsoft to realize they're going to keep losing people as long as Sony remains free and hardware keeps improving. Mmos are doing the same thing, many are becoming free to play, following games like guild wars. Microsoft would do well to do the same.

I read about how a lot of people have a problem with it, but neither I nor any of my friends do. Its a good service. And money they make there goes towards improvements to the servers and funding for the Xbox. After all, the Xbox was the first console sold at a loss hoping to make up for that through game sales (and Xbox live, which wasn't online at the time). And besides, Microsoft has been good to me. They even gave me 3 months free and $10 worth of MP for no reason. I earn MP by using Bing, and they give out MP (periodically) if you sign up for a certain service. And I like the indie games, the arcade games are way over priced though usually.

Understandable, and good reasons. For me at least, I don't have the money to pay for the service, and my parents won't pay for it on my behalf. And I find that play station works fantastically with great service.

That's a good question I'm getting this for ps3 but it might not matter if u have gold or not
-
I would imagine it would be empty. I mean, Xbox live gold gameplay (with people) without Xbox Live gold? That can't be right. And I don't think it would be right for you be unable to play while you have internet access. But I also don't really think requiring internet access is right. Maybe there should be a way to "download" the world of destiny. When you "download" it, you essentially create an instance of the world on your console, but can access that instance offline, and it would obviously only update (say they add another planet!) while online. I think that's a good compromise that solves the silver/gold issue that should help with the spotty internet. Don't have internet, take it (the console) somewhere that has internet, borrow it, and download destiny!

I picture it like borderlands or skyrim where it's a vast world that u can still play offline
-
But Borderlands and Skyrim are not ever changing worlds. It's going to be similar to Defiance or typical MMO's. Bungie is calling it shared world shooter.
