From what I have read from the internet and school, it seems the blame is on his generals not Hirohito specifically. However I still believe that he is responsible for all the nasty blam that happened under the Japanese occupation. It warps reality that they didn't try him as a war criminal, it would be if Hitler said "I didn't murder the Jews, my generals did".
Alas there are cases like this all over the world more specifically former members of the Khmer rouge......

Exactly, I don't get why people treat Hirohito differently now even though there's tons and tons of evidence that notable Japanese atrocities were caused by Hirohito's command.

My bet was that the Americans wanted stability to Japan after they surrender, after all they were determined to fight until the bitter end hell they even staged a coup just so they could continue the war. So they "protected" Hirohito from warcrimes and time went on.
