Why would we make the decision for the child? Parents should not have the right to have a child's body parts removed unless it is necessary for the child's physical well-being.
Parents should not have the right to have a child's body parts removed unless it is necessary for the child's physical well-being.
Separation of church and state. AND It's arguably for the child's well-being. Even physical. Because being mentally upset has a physical toll on you. And going to school as both a girl and a boy is going to fly about as well as a brick tied to an anvil.

Edited by Ryan: 5/17/2013 10:19:08 PMYou're using the concept of the separation of church and state incorrectly. It doesn't allow people to do anything as long as it is in the name of religion. Clearly you don't get to violate the consent of another individual simply because you profess that it is for a religious ceremony/tradition. That is pretty absurd. Besides, this story has nothing to do with religion Furthermore, clearly the doctor(s)'x actions were not for the child's well-being since it is not making him suffer. They should have waited since this decision carries great consequences that is pretty much irreversible.

Edited by Ryan: 5/17/2013 10:19:54 PMFun fact: I never said or implied that I want that to happen. This story is clearly different than circumcision since cutting off your entire phallus is not the same as removing your foreskin.

I care about people's individual rights. The right to decide whether or not you want to have a part of your genitals removed, rather than have your parents make such an irreversible decision for you, is one of those.
