Firstly, the term is "geek", unless you know you're specifically talking about "nerds", there is a difference. I classify myself as a geek. I am socially outgoing, but have my personal tastes when it comes to gaming, "geekness", board games and card games.
My friends in real life know I'm a Bungie fan and there's no worrying about it. It doesn't really matter in the real world. Be who you are and enjoy life. This is just more a stereotype argument than anything. It's more a concentration in a subject area. You're so focused on one are of your life that you're willing to spend time and money to make a living off of it.
By that logic shouldn't all college graduates be considered geeks and/or nerds? Nothing to be shamed about.

Thank you sir, I think the same thing. Geeks are socially outgoing and tend to lean more towards the gaming/anime/computer aspects while "nerds" learn more towards only book smart and the top in classes all around. I consider myself a geek, I am a computer junky and know a lot more than most people about them and enjoy games but I am not that great at school, only average. Fond some geeky or nerdy friends and they will be there you for life.
