If a guy wants to watch shows "deemed for women" (like The Real Housewives of Atlanta, Glee, Gossip Girl), don’t criticize him.
With those examples, I certainly would criticize his bad taste in television.
If it is as simple as that, then why don’t women get as much crap for watching those shows or listening to that music?
They should.
Women can partake in many things that are considered predominately masculine, and it is more or less socially accepted.
This is where I say shut up and show me your studies. You seem to be just running off biases here. But I agree with your gist, that people shouldn't be liked or disliked based on their going with or against traditional notions of gender.

I think the OP is pretty much correct. Although it is fine to criticize someone for watching certain televisions shows or listening to certain music. However, more often than not, people just criticize the guy's masculinity rather than attack the actual quality of the show. A lot of this is coming from personal experience though since I actually like Glee and a few boybands. I think a more telling example is the how women can be hair stylists, but if a man wants to, it is often assumed that he is gay or feminine in someway On the other side, women can be, for instance, a race car driver (which is considered predominately masculine). and it is usually socially accepted or even praised. That really shouldn't be surprising since tom boys are usually more accepted than tom girls. The crux of the issues and many similar ones is the idea of gender roles and how people have to follow them. That is what we need to fix since it will alleviate many problems in this regard although I don't expect society to change anytime soon.
