Are kids forced to pledge? If so then that's stupid, people don't have to pledge to anything they don't want.

In some schools, yes. In my high school we recite it every morning before class, but you are't [i]forced[/i] to do it. Although if you just sit there and do nothing you get a lot of bad looks and one of our staff members is a paralyzed Vietnam Vet who CAN'T stand up to say the pledge and he'll rip you a new asshole if he catches you not standing up and saying it. I've been scolded a few times for leaving out the "under god" part, but I could care less since it's my right to choose not to.
