2 Replies in this Sub-ThreadBECAUSE DOUBLE STANDARD SEXISM OMFG!!1!!!11 Yeah, no. While openness about sex and self-pleasure is a relatively new phenomenon, sexism has evolved with the sexual revolution. It's more socially acceptable because sexualization of women is more socially acceptable. Women are supposed to be sexual creatures; specifically, objects that exist to pleasure men. The idea of a woman pleasuring herself fits perfectly into our idea of her as being defined by her unquenchable desire for sex. The way women walk, talk, look at you, dress-- it's all to be more sexually appealing to us. It's why women who dress a certain way are "sluts", random women walking on the street are told to "smile!" and are "complimented" by complete strangers on their looks, and the notion of women "wanting it" is so pervasive. Meanwhile, the poor, downtrodden male is the victim of reverse-sexism. Or something. By creating a role for the woman as a living Fleshlight to be taken advantage of, we give ourselves the de facto role of the "aggressor". Given such favorable conditions, Real Men (TM) are supposed to be able to "get" women. The key/lock analogy is a perfect example of how we view sexual roles. How able you are to get laid is made a vital part of your social identity. On the other hand, resorting to a Fleshlight is an admission of how terrible you are at getting women-- which is unacceptable. So you're a pathetic loser who isn't even good enough to have real sex. You're also disgusting, because nobody wants to see a man getting off. It's women who embody the word "sexy", not men.

Bullshit. If women are sexual objects their pleasure in having sex has nothing to do with it. It's not like the dildo or fleshlight enjoys it. Dildos are simply more accepted because they've been around longer and have penetrated (lol) different forms of media. They're on TV, in movies, in videogames, in works of art etc. They're viewed as even comical. When have you seen a fleshlight used in the same way? Never.
