Seems as if understanding the principle electron shell, angular momentum of the electron, magnetic quantum number, and spin are relatively easy (Well, spin itself is a confusing concept), but understanding the relationship between them and how they are fitted to the s-p-d-f subshells and graphings are just gross.

Visual representations of orbitals beyond the s and p subshell becomes very messy. The d subshell has 5 orbitals and the f subshell 7 orbitals. Visualizing these different complex shapes in 3 dimensional space is tricky, but sometimes necessary, especially when considering the colors produced by coordination compounds by crystal field theory.
