I'm in no way a law student but i think its pretty much common sense that a teacher or member of staff at a school have no right to search your phone.

  • That's what I think. I asked my design teacher if it was illegal, he said it wasn't. But I've yet to see anything on the net (I did a couple of hours research yesterday, and came up with nothing) explicitly confirming this.

  • No, it's not. 99% sure school's reserve the right to be able to confiscate devices they have already deemed inappropriate. If I started texting in assembly, for instance, they're perfectly within their rights to confiscate it and not let me get it until a parent gets it at the end of the week (or whatever).

  • Are they? Never knew that. That is different from actually searching what is on your phone though. Pretty sure only the police can do that with a search warrant or something like that. Not to mention teachers would break loads of privacy laws
