They can't do that for each and every sequel can they? There is rumoured to be 4 Destiny games with 4 major expansions. If we die at the end of each game it's just like, blah. It would get old after the first game really. And if we die, how do we keep playing? I beat the campaign, but I died.. now let me free roam. It sort of takes you out of the immersion, it takes you out of "This is my character, he is really a part of the world" If he dies in the story, it's hard to roleplay from then on..

Edited by external: 4/27/2013 9:28:05 AMI hear you on this being a problematic ending for every sequel, but I don't know how in the story the NPC's are supposed to treat everyone as the one Guardian that dealt that final definitive strike, though. Regardless of the death idea, as far as free roaming after you beat the game (it's episodic so I don't know when we'll finally be able to beat it): It's like, when the final chapter is available, you can choose to go off and play that with your friends, and that's it. The end, roll credits. Because the point is to end the conflict. That's what a resolution is to a story. Now, as far as gameplay, you could still just pick up where you left off before you go do that final chapter / battle, or start a new character and go through all the chapters fresh, or replay any of the chapters with that current character. It's a story, so revisiting a chapter as a more well-armed you isn't that far of a stretch. But I think it'd be pretty ridiculous to bring an end to the threat and then you fly off to Mars to terrorize Cabal town, just for shits and giggles. That is a stretch, in my opinion.

I don't think we'll 'end' the conflict, not in the first game. I think we might be able to 'buy our time', type deal. Fend them off. Live to fight another day type deal. As for our characters carrying over to the next game, I could see it happening, how they explain us not having the same gear, I don't know.. maybe Destiny 2 will be set years in the future, where some unfortunate event stripped us of what we had.. OR they ellude to our hero dying in the past years somehow, and we start as a fresh faced guardian. But, the point is... they are going to span this over many games. We aren't going to just end the conflict in the first game.

Edited by external: 4/27/2013 1:21:01 PMNo, really? An end of the story's conflict. As in, the story of the first game. Preventing the imminent threat to Earth. A plot has a conflict and a resolution, regardless of whether there's planned sequels. Neo defeats the agents and learns he can fly. Ripley self-destructs the ship and takes off in the escape pod. Master Chief blows up the first Halo installation. Resolution to the present conflict. I'm a little disappointed I have to spell out what a story conflict is.
I think we might be able to 'buy our time', type deal. Fend them off. Live to fight another day type deal.
This is the point I guess we have in common. I thought you were saying we would defeat the aliens and we would live peacefully and happily ever after, we'll destroy the aliens and we'll reclaim all the planets. I think what will happen, is we'll fend them off and live to fight another day. When Master Chief destroyed the first Halo, he wasn't ending the war, he wasn't ending the conflict. Likely, planets were still being glassed and people were dying while he was doing this. (Please don't go into Halo lore right now) Point is, there was a conflict, he did resolve that conflict, but the overall conflict was not solved. I believe, that yes, we will face a conflict in the game, something to do with the Glimmer probably.. and we will resolve that conflict (if only for a short time).
